The Beginners’ Salsa Program is made up of four courses which provide students with a solid technical foundation on which to build on while learning the basic steps and partnering components for Salsa. Students are guided through the initial development of their rhythm & timing as well as their leading & following skills.
BL1 - Beginner Level 1
(prerequisite: none)
Students are guided through the initial development of their rhythm & timing, their leading & following skills and their partnering basics. Instruction includes 4 core partnering movements. This course is strongly recommended for all students that are new to our school and ideal for students with no prior formal training in Salsa.
BL2 - Beginner Level 2
(prerequisite: successful completion of BL1 or assessment)
Instruction includes the development of 3 more core partnering movements. Emphasis continues to be placed on rhythm & timing and lead & follow communication. The core movements learned in this course are combined with the partnering basics acquired in BL1. The concept of Open Footwork Shines is introduced with instruction on basic patterns.
BL3 - Beginner Level 3
(prerequisite: successful completion of BL2 or assessment)
Instruction includes the development of 4 more core partnering movements. The core movements learned in this course are combined with the partnering components from Beginner Levels 1 & 2. Emphasis continues to be placed on rhythm & timing and lead and follow techniques. Additional Open Footwork Shines are introduced during the warm-ups.
BL4 - Beginner Level 4
(prerequisite: successful completion of BL3 or assessment)
This course further explores and develops the core movements and techniques studied in the first three beginner courses. The aim of this course is NOT to re-teach these core movements and techniques. The focus is placed on refining and reinforcing your skills while challenging you to manipulate your knowledge further. Instruction includes exercises that guide you through the creation of your own combinations using core movements from all three levels. These exercises teach the “leads” how to explore and develop their own variations and combinations while the "follows" further develop their ability to adapt and calmly react to variations. The instructional emphasis is placed on leading & following skills with special focus on core response vs. visual response. In addition, we explore common Cross Body Lead Styling elements for the “follows”.
