The Intermediate Salsa Program is made up of four courses which build on the solid technical foundation that students have developed through the “Beginners’ Salsa Program”. The fundamental techniques learned in the Beginner Level courses will be used and combined with additional core partnering components from various styles of Salsa while continuing to build the students' rhythm & timing and their leading and following skills.
IL1 - Intermediate Level 1
(prerequisite: successful completion of BL4 or assessment)
Instruction includes the development of 3 more core partnering movements. Emphasis continues to be placed on rhythm & timing and lead & follow communication. Intermediate level shines will be introduced at the beginning of the course.
IL2 - Intermediate Level 2
(prerequisite: successful completion of IL1 or assessment)
Instruction includes the development of 3 more core partnering movements. Various core movements from IL1 and other previous levels will be incorporated in sequence with the new partnering material. Emphasis continues to be placed on rhythm & timing and lead & follow communication. Additional intermediate level shines are taught.
IL3 - Intermediate Level 3
(prerequisite: successful completion of IL2 or assessment)
Instruction includes the development of 3 more core partnering movements. Various core movements from IL1 & IL2 as well as other previous levels will be incorporated in sequence with the new partnering material. Emphasis continues to be placed on rhythm & timing and lead & follow communication. Additional intermediate level shines are taught.
IL4 - Intermediate Level 4
(prerequisite: successful completion of IL3 or assessment)
The course serves as a review of the core movements and techniques studied in the first three intermediate courses. The aim of this course is NOT to re-teach these core movements and techniques. The focus is placed on refining and reinforcing your skills while challenging you to manipulate your knowledge further. Instruction includes exercises that guide you through the creation of your own combinations using core movements from all three levels. These exercises teach the “leads” how to explore and develop their own variations and combinations while the "follows" further develop their ability to adapt and calmly react to variations. The instructional emphasis is placed on leading & following skills with special focus on core response vs. visual response. The course format is very similar to that of BL4 but the pace is much quicker and the variations and combinations are longer and more complex in order to prepare you for the rigors of the Advanced Level Workshop.
